THE RED RIGHT HAND PODCAST PODCAST Episode XV Truly, For Some Men Nothing Is Written Unless They Write It Introduction Good afternoon, kids. It's Autumn! Yeah! The time of year when the stars align or.. something.. happens. Look, Autumn is a magical time that instils a curious sense of harmony within me. I am in-tuned with the world around and completely happy and at ease.. except last year. Last year sucked. But it was alright because it was Autumn! So, does this mean the reviews will be less grumpy? Does it mean my responses to emailed feedback will have a more forgiving tone? Does it bollocks! But that's alright, you can all get stuffed because it's Autumn! *heavy breathing* Ok, ok, I'm good now. I just.. just needed to get that out of my system. In addition to it being Autumn I have another reason to be less bitter and vengeful toward the lady-folk *You'er so damaged. Just because Sarah hurt you, you feel justified in reeking your petty vengeance on womankind* *Yes.. yes.. and I'd do it again, I tell you, I'd do it again in an instant!* But I'm not going to tell you about that. Following last month's immense submissions for the audio samples competition I regret to inform you that no one has correctly identified the audio samples in Episode 14. Better luck this month. I would also like to correct an error made in said episode. Reading out Richard's text I stated that Bertolucci directed a film called Conspiracy, this is incorrect and the film in question was in fact The Conformist or Il Conformista. I also have a new page on the site, one I've been meaning to put up for quite some time. If you haven't noticed, it's a Links Page, with a plethora of external sites that I either promote, support or have had dealings with in the past. So, if you get the chance, please do have a look at some of the work there, it's all stellar stuff. I should also specifically mention Cheesemint Productions - just because I'm heavily affiliated with them. Mmm.. the sweet scent of biased prejudice. And one final note before moving on, Splatz42 has asked why Daniel Wickham has a Thought Of The Month when he doesn't sound like he cares. Got to admit, I don't really understand the question. I gave Mr. Wickham an allotted one minute to talk about whatever he likes and you think he doesn't care about it? Personally, I couldn't give a rat's arse if he cares about it or not. The fact remains that he has a minute to say what he likes and he does. Entertaining and well-produced but a tad pointless" 6/10 RipeAvocado12 from Louisiana sent me this, This film was definitely worth watching and quite enjoyable but I thought it dragged in the middle. I'm glad I ate before I went to the theater! and these words came from Megan Hearn, Julie Powell sucks! I hated her character, I would have much preferred to see a film just about Julia Child. And finally, Don Smith wrote, Goddamn, that ending was so unsatisfying! It lacked so much, there was no closure, no nothing. Completely ruined the movie for me. [06-09-09] Dorian Gray "Far better than I had originally expected but so many mistakes could have been avoided if the crew had simply stuck to Wilde's work" 7/10 Waser LaBouche commented that, The characters weren't established or developed in anyway, it wasn't chilling, haunting or creepy it was just bland and boring. Borian Gray would be much better suited. Idiots. Alice emailed me with a similar comment, This film was so laboured and boring. And I have no idea what you were talking about, the music ended up feeling like a broken record and at one point actually sounded silly! I'd only recommend this film if you had nothing better to do. Again, idiot. I'm sorry, part of me wants to offer a constructive response but that's why I wrote a review. This podcast is for me to call you an idiot. Idiot. On the other end of the spectrum of opinion, CupCakeLuver wrote in with, Why is everyone bashing this film? It was good! I loved the whole dark, gothic style and I don't really have an issue with the acting either. Before I read your review, I didn't get along with anything reviewers had said but I like that you reviewed the film as a fan of the book and just as a film. Thank you, I try. And lastly, Mirdula exclaimed, The dude fucked a kid! Yes, he sort of did. And you watched. Which is worse? *NOT AVAILABLE AT PRESENT* Ratings Two more films to address, first we have District 9, which was funking amazing. Unique, innovative and enthralling; Blomkamp needs to be very closely monitored. And secondly, Fame, the recent remake of the 1980 classic. I'm not exactly a fan of the original but I do respect the source materials. Which is why I hated this Disney-fied schlocky mess. Seriously, somebody needs to setup a doctrine stating what material can and cannot be optioned for a remake. *NOT AVAILABLE AT PRESENT* Best & Worst Releases Of The Month 2. Case 39 1. Well, it was set for 9th September but the UK release has been delayed until the end of October; 28th to be precise. Trailers have gone online for Zemeckis' new motion-capture flick, A Christmas Carol. I'm not the biggest fan of mo-cap realism but this one does look quite interesting. Problem is, like The Polar Express, I doubt it will age well. Anyways, that one's due out 6th November. February next year will see action flick, From Paris With Love, starring John Travolta and Jonathan Rhys Meyers as FBI agents running around Paris. It could easily be a horrific work of shite but the potential for greatness is certainly present in the trailer. Then way off in the distance, possibly sometime next year, we have the very compelling sounding Mr. Nobody. It sounds like a sort of Fountain-esque reflective piece spanning one hundred years. Should prove interesting. *NOT AVAILABLE AT PRESENT* What I Watched Today Four films for you, first we have one of the most underrated comedies of the eighties, Better Off Dead *You ski the K12 dude, and girls will go sterile just looking at you* Then Billy Bob Thornton's finest hour in Sling Blade *Ever think of killing yourself on purpose, like my daddy done?* *I studied about it. The Bible says you ought not to. It says if you do that, you go off to Hades. Some folks call it Hell, I call it Hades* The imperfect but thoroughly entertaining, Carlito's Way *Don't take me to no hospital, please. Fuckin' emergency rooms don't save nobody. Sumbitches always pop you at midnight, when all they got is a Chinese intern with a dull spoon* And finally, one of my favourite flicks, Brick *Throw one at me if you want, hash-head. I've got all five senses and I slept last night, that puts me six up on the lot of you* And finally, this month's Noir Night will be postponed as I am indisposed this weekend, Wickham's brother is getting married and it's all just too much going on. So. Nothing for you. Sorry. *NOT AVAILABLE AT PRESENT* Outro Next month will be my Halloween/Guy Fawkes special, which promises to be exactly like every other episode of the podcast bar the addition of crappy sound effects. With that said, all that remains is for me to close this month’s podcast, thank you all for listening and ask that you continue to stay loyal to the site. Do tune in next month for more cinematic dronings and as always, happy viewing, kids.
