NOTABLE INDIVIDUALS

Director Of The Year

James Cameron
There are few directors that are guaranteed a place in the history of cinema. For his contribution to the visual spectacle element that is film-making, James Cameron is as good as legend. After a decade away from narrative films, Cameron released initial footage of Avatar. The general public were not impressed. On release the critics were silenced and Cameron proved once again that he is still the go-to-guy for revolutionising cinema as a visual story-telling medium. It may seem like a bit of an obvious or fan-service choice but the man has long since earned my respect and adoration.

Actor Of The Year

Joseph Gordon-Levitt
After starting out as a child actor in 3rd Rock From The Sun Gordon-Levitt left the industry, vowing only to work on quality releases. As such, everything he has starred in has been an absolute joy - yes, I'm also referring to his role in G.I. Joe. Most importantly though, is the part he played in one of this year's best releases (not to mention one of the greatest romantic comedies ever filmed), (500) Days Of Summer.

Actress Of The Year

Emily Blunt
Ms. Blunt has been gracing our screens for only a handful of years but I'm glad to see she's getting more prominent roles now. This year she starred in both Sunshine Cleaning and The Young Victoria and her effort in both is sublime. With Wolf Man and attachments to several other projects, I expect Ms. Blunt's career to be a long and praise-worthy one.

Rising Talent Of The Year

Christoph Waltz
Christoph Waltz was an almost completely unknown actor but following his absolutely iconic role in Inglourious Basterds I imagine he will be appearing in countless upcoming releases.
