NOTABLE INDIVIDUALS

Director Of The Year

Shane Meadows
Shane Meadows is one of those British directors that almost nobody has heard of but Dead Man's Shoes proves that he is a directorial talent to be reckoned with and an artistic force that I'm sure will one day achieve cult status as one of those exceptional British unknowns. Watch this man closely!

Actor Of The Year

Jamie Foxx
I never liked Jamie Foxx's comedy; primarily because I'm British and we don't get a great deal of American stand-up (thankfully). So to see him rise to impressive acting heights in Collateral and Ray is a tremendous credit to this individual. In addition to these roles he has also provided an enthralling performance of Stanley Tooke in Redemption, that is also definitely worth a look.

Actress Of The Year

Kate Winslet
I'm not proud to say I've done my fair share of Winslet hating. I was twelve when Titanic came out and like everyone else, I loved the film but decided to bad mouth Kate's sappy "Jack, come back" pleas to protect my young reputation as A MAN! Well, now I'm a critic of nearly twenty one and if anyone says I'm not A MAN I just hit them (...manly) so I can properly critique Ms. Winslet as an actress and this year's offerings of Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind and Finding Neverland prove once again that she is a more than capable actress with an impressive curriculum vitae that will expand to great heights.

Rising Talent Of The Year

Gael Garcia Bernal
I have only seen Bernal in 2000's Amores Perros and Alfonso Cuaron's Y Tu Mama Tambien but after watching Diarios De Motocicleta and La Mala Educacion, it's clear this young Mexican actor is a fine talent and sure to be fed plenty of decent roles.
