2009 Notable Individuals THE EXCEPTIONAL
1 - Gran Torino In a time when action flicks, explosions and computer generated effects run rampant, Eastwood has produced a truly earnest piece of cinema worthy of every ounce of potential praise 2 - Slumdog Millionaire Compelling, energetic and unabashedly optimistic, Slumdog is a sheer wonder to behold 3 - (500) Days Of Summer (500) Days Of Summer is hilariously quirky, perfectly written, delightfully structured and one of the best romantic comedies available 4 - Watchmen At 215 minutes, the full director's cut of Watchmen is an astounding adaptation of the greatest graphic novel ever penned 5 - Doubt Layered with captivating performances, subtle direction and a profound plot, Doubt is a prime example of successful transition from stage to screen 6 - Star Trek 7 - Up 8 - Public Enemies 9 - Coraline 10 - District 9 THE MOST UNDER-RATED FILM OF 2009
A Serious Man The Coen brothers rarely produce a bad film but A Serious Man is one of their most fascinating and mature efforts - genuinely intriguing and thoroughly impressive THE INUTILE
1 - Terminator: Salvation Completely ignoring everything that came before it in an attempt to make its own hideous mark (where 'mark' read: stain) and as much money as possible, this is a disgusting cash-in that focuses solely on what sells. On the plus side, it spawned one of my most popular negative-reviews since The Da Vinci Code 2 - Hannah Montana: The Movie Paralytic performances, agonisingly desperate attempts at humour and a plot that shuffles from one moronic concept to the next, Hannah Montana is the epitome of how not to execute a family film 3 - Bride Wars An utter waste of talent and time, not to mention an absurd storyline and terrifically shameful attempts at comedic japery 4 - Confessions Of A Shopaholic As with Bride Wars, this shallow release is another film that portrays women in the absolute worst light possible without an ounce of remorse 5 - Dragonball: Evolution Doomed from the get-go, Dragonball is simply unsuitable for a live-action cinematic medium, especially in the hands of such inept filmmakers THE MOST OVER-RATED FILM OF 2009
Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen Bay had more than enough opportunity to rectify the glaring flaws form the first Transformers outing but instead he built on them, creating a messy CGI crapfest curiously hailed by the general public as a 'superb sequel' |
