The crowning jewel in a golden year for cinema 2 - The Fountain One of the most thought-provoking existential love stories to grace the screen. Unfortunately critics slated it and regular cinemagoers didn't get it so it remains one of the greatest underappreciated masterpieces of the decade 3 - The Departed Another glorious delight from Scorsese; one of the best cop films since L.A. Confidential 4 - Brokeback Mountain A stunning and controversial romance gracefully directed by Ang Lee 5 - The Prestige At the heart of this film is a deep, intertwining plot masterfully told by Chris Nolan and a wealth of acting talent 6 - The Proposition 7 - Children Of Men 8 - Syriana 9 - V For Vendetta 10 - Walk The Line THE MOST UNDER-RATED FILM OF 2006 Rocky Balboa I wrote this film off as an unnecessary extravagance but I was proven wrong as this is the paragon sequel THE INUTILE 1 - Adrift One of the most depressing films I have ever seen, simply because I nearly walked out - something I have never done. It may not have been the largest stain on 2006's cinematic record (see below) but it was certainly the darkest 2 - The Da Vinci Code Abysmal adaptation of an appalling book that enraged me thoroughly 3 - Eragon A piss-poor rip-off of nearly every fantasy novel and film ever produced 4 - The Wicker Man Contender for the worst remake ever made 5 - The Pink Panther Similar to The Wicker Man, this is just a film that never should have been approved THE MOST OVER-RATED FILM OF 2006 Babel Arrogant, self-important, pretentious prattling that only proved popular with arrogant, self-important, pretentious people
