GRINDHOUSE Grindhouse - Death Proof Director Robert Rodriguez Eli Roth Quentin Tarantino Edgar Wright Rob Zombie Starring Rose McGowan Freddy Rodriguez Josh Brolin Marley Shelton Michael Biehn Naveen Andrews Kurt Russell Rosario Dawson Nicholas Cage Bruce Willis Danny Trejo As the splitting of this film, on it's UK release, is undecided, I shall review both films under Grindhouse with the individual films listed as subtitles. The first is by Robert Rodriguez and appears to be a direct homage/rip of Romero's Night Of The Living Dead series, whereas Tarantino's rev-fest is more in the style of Russ Meyer's Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! but with less nudity. At the very start of this marathon ordeal is a phoney trailer for a film (that Rodriquez has now decided to make) called Machete; about a double-crossed hitman who stands up for immigrants and justice... sort of. The trailers in between the two features are also phoney films, directed by Rob Zombie (Werewolf Women Of The SS), Eli Roth (Thanksgiving) and Edgar Wright (Don't); just to keep the aesthetic alive. Each are entertaining in their own right, with some amazing cameos (Nick Frost and Nicholas Cage as FuManchu come to mind) that give an authentically replicated grindhouse feel.
